Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is a theoretical form of artificial intelligence that possesses the ability to understand, learn, and apply its intelligence to solve any intellectual problem a human being can. Today's AI is highly specialized and "narrow"; a system trained to analyze financial data cannot pivot to design a marketing campaign. This limits AI's ability to tackle complex, multi-disciplinary challenges that require creativity, common sense, and strategic thinking.

How it works#
An Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) does not yet exist, but its theoretical design involves creating a single system that can learn and reason in a flexible, general way, much like a person. It wouldn't just recognize patterns in data; it would understand the underlying context and principles, allowing it to think creatively and strategically to solve problems it has never encountered before.
How it is different#
Artificial General Intelligence refers to a system with the capacity to perform any intellectual task that a human being can. This differs fundamentally from the 'Narrow AI' used in business today, such as ChatGPT or fraud detection systems. Narrow AI excels at the single, specific function it was trained for, but it cannot transfer that intelligence to an unrelated domain. An AGI, in contrast, could learn and adapt to virtually any task without needing to be rebuilt.
